Melissa George joining Clive again in The Boys are back in Town ? | #1
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37972 I completely forgot that Scott Hicks's next film was about to be shot in Australia. Coming hot on the heels of his terrific Philip Glass doco (reviewed by yours truly here), THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN will soon shoot in South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula, by the far the most exciting thing to ever happen to South Australia since God flooded it back in the Old Testament. Clive Owen plays a drunk, selfish writer who is forced to look after two young boys after a tragic accident places them in his care. The film will also star Australian Melissa George, who co-starred with Owen in DERAILED, and begins shooting in September.

A Culinary Review: The meal was a complete 'Kate Winslet' - that is visually appealing, very tasty and just the right amount of meat. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/katethegreat and KWFC

IMDB. com : George MacKay to play Harry ? | #7
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0926380/ http://www.capitolfilms.c...Boys_Are_Back_In_Town_The Boys Are Back In Town, The
From the Academy Award's nominated director of Shine, comes an inspiring, funny and poignant story of a father who discovers that parenthood is
more complicated than just saying yes.
Sports writer Joe Warr, an Englishman living in Queensland, Australia, loves his wife Katy and their six-year-old son Artie. But father and son suffer a huge emotional upheaval in their lives when Katy suddenly dies. Rebuffing Katy's mum's suggestion that she look after the boy in the week while Joe is at work, the young widower says he's determined to do it "my way". Joe tries to create a happy atmosphere in the home, even if that means French fries and ketchup for breakfast and mud on the carpet. "Hog heaven", Joe calls it, but his attempts at macho bonding with his son can't replace the emotional vacuum left by the loss of the little boy's mother. Joe finds himself drawn to Laura, the single parent of one of Artie's school pals, but on the night of his son's riotous seventh birthday party he receives a call from his ex-wife Flicka, who lives back in England. The pair's 14-year-old son Harry, who has never visited his father in Australia, would like to fly out after Christmas for an unspecified period. Harry is initially fazed by the chaotic state of his father's beachfront house, but soon finds himself testing the limits of even Joe's tolerant attitude. Events spiral out of control when Joe's boss pressures him into covering the Australian tennis open in Melbourne, and he leaves the boys behind for a few days. The older beach kids take advantage of Joe's absence to have a riotous party at his home, and by the time Joe gets to hear his elder son's increasingly desperate phone messages it's too late: the police have intervened; Artie has been rescued by his maternal grandmother; and Harry has gone back to England. Now separated once again by thousands of miles, Harry refuses to speak on the phone to his father. But having been absent for so long of the boy's life, Joe is not prepared to accept their bond has been broken. If he's ever to see his sons together under one roof again, he knows he must take dramatic action.

Surprise! Surprise! | #8

Surprise! Surprise! I received a call yesterday from the South Australian Film Corporation to come in next Tuesday to fill out some forms, have a head &
shoulders photo taken and to have my bust, waist & hips measured!!!
The lady did tell me they may or may not be able to use me and, even if they do, there are no guarantees that I would be in a scene with Clive!! Oh bother!!
Just to know that he's in the vicinity would be a thrill in
itself!! Will keep you posted.
Hugs, Lyn. |

I went to the Film Corporation this morning and had a photo taken. Also filled in a form which included a confidentiality agreement. So, we shall see
.................
Incidentally, it would appear that the movie is to be called "The Boys Are Back In Town" and not just "The Boys Are Back". I was a little unsure myself as I had seen it referred to by both titles. Hugs, Lyn.

A new Scott Hicks movie is being filmed in Adelaide | #15
|
http://www.news.com.au/ad...,24372819-5006301,00.html
September 20, 2008 12:01am REAL-LIFE students, nurses and taxi drivers from across Adelaide will star alongside Oscar-nominated actor Clive Owen in Scott Hicks's new $18.5 million movie. The Boys are Back, which will start filming on September 29, will feature real people in their own workplaces as extras and also in small roles. Even 30 or so hacks from The Advertiser will make a brief appearance in the movie when the production shifts to the newspaper's Waymouth St offices on October 11. "We're getting real journalists, real students from Kangarilla Primary School, real nurses and doctors from Flinders Private Hospital and Qantas staff at the airport," Scene to Screen Studios casting director Wizzy Evans said. Non-professionals will make up about 20 per cent of the extras and small parts. "We get `actuals' (non professionals) if the job looks as if it will be more authentic if people know what they're doing," Ms Evans said. The Boys are Back stars Owen (Closer, Children of Men) as a sports writer who becomes a single parent of two young boys in tragic circumstances and has to learn how to be a decent dad. Hicks said he wanted to ensure that the movie was both credible and authentic. "I like to see the reality of the situation so I can ground it in, even if in the (finished) film it gets a little bit away from that," he said. Hicks said during his scouting visit this week that the reality of modern newspapers was different from how he had imagined it. "It's quite different to how it's portrayed. It's quieter and a lot more corporate," he said. Advertiser executive sports editor Peter Dawe has been hired as a consultant on the film, to help ensure certain scenes ring true. He'll be attending filming at the SA Cricket Ground press box, Adelaide Aquatic Centre and at AAMI Stadium - which will double for Melbourne Park for scenes set at the Australian Open. "One scene sees Clive try to cover the Australian Open from the TV because he's at home with a sick kid," Dawe said. "Then his boss rings up and says he's going to the Open and he'll see him there." Filming also will take place at a McLaren Flat vineyard. Unfortunately for would-be extras, Ms Evans said no more applications would be accepted. However, she is on the hunt for a set of 18-month-old Indian/Caucasian twins. The Boys are Back has been estimated to be worth $6.8 million to the state economy. The production will wrap on November 28, with post production completed by mid-2009. |

I am wondering if Clive is taking the family to Australia as previously mentioned and if they are leaving this coming week to have time together before he
starts filming on the 29th?

Not sure, JG. I suppose it depends on when the kids start school. He did say that they really wanted to visit Australia as a family, so I hope they're able
to work something out.

6:30 PM on Saturday in Adelaide.
My friend & her hubby are spending the weekend at a little beachside town, down south, called Middleton. She just sent me a text message to say that Scott Hicks was behind them in the queue at the chicken shop. She didn't like to ask if Clive was with him!! No sign of Clive unfortunately - although I wouln't be surprised if he is staying down there. It's a really nice little place and quite deserted this time of the year while the weather is still very cool. Hugs, Lyn. |
